Greece<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Association of Young Psychologists in Bulgaria \u201c4th April\u201d, Bulgaria<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>AWAV-ARTEMIS: Association of Women Against Violence, Romania&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em><strong>Short description of the project<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">EAVN participated as partner to the Project &#8220;<strong>Raising a Child through Prison Bars<\/strong>&#8221; (with financial support from the DAPHNE III Programme of the European Union) that was implemented in Greece, Bulgaria and Romania. The project\u2019s&nbsp;objectives&nbsp;were to contribute to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>support Imprisoned Mothers (IM) &amp; future mothers to handle their own experiences of abuse [either Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) or Child Abuse &amp; Neglect (CAN)] &amp; accomplish their parental role in as an effective way as possible<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>prevent &amp; combat CAN as well as to provide support to Children of Imprisoned Parents (CHIP) in order to both disrupt the cycle of violence &amp; enhance children\u2019s resilience<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>collect data in 3 European countries&nbsp;(Greece, Romania, Bulgaria)&nbsp;aiming to map the Imprisoned Mothers population in regards to demographic information, needs and problems faced by Imprisoned Mothers, their children and families, as well as in regards to CAN and attachment style for both Imprisoned Mothers and Children of Imprisoned Parents, IPV experience of IM and mental health of CHIP.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The project&#8217;s objectives were accomplished by conducting the following activities in Bulgaria, Greece and Romania from December 2009 until February 2012:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Research &amp; needs assessment surveys were conducted to imprisoned mothers, children of imprisoned parents and women&#8217;s prisons&#8217; personnel&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mothers\u2019 Support Groups&nbsp;(M-SG) &amp;&nbsp;Family Ties Building Activities were conducted in 5 women\u2019s prisons in Bulgaria (one prison), Greece (2 prisons) and Romania (2 prisons)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Children\u2019s Support Groups&nbsp;(CHIP-SG) were conducted via using drama techniques<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Building women\u2019s prisons\u2019 personnel capacity through&nbsp;Training (professionals&nbsp;employed in women\u2019s prisons)&nbsp;&amp; Sensitization Seminars (operational personnel) &nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Development of Supportive Materials, namely:&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The expected results of these activities are: enhanced CHIP\u2019s resilience &amp; functionality; enhanced IMs\u2019 parenting skills; strengthened mother-child relationships; enhanced skills &amp; raised awareness of prison personnel:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>two (informative) leaflets\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>for children of imprisoned mothers entitled:&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mothers-in-prison.eu\/sites\/default\/files\/1\/ENG_Leaflet%20for%20children%20of%20imprisoned%20mothers.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">My mother is in prison\u2026 what I&#8217;d like to know\u2026<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>for imprisoned mothers entitled:&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mothers-in-prison.eu\/sites\/default\/files\/1\/ENG_Leaflet%20for%20imprisoned%20mothers.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Raising a child through Prison Bars\u2026 isn\u2019t easy but&#8230;&nbsp;it isn\u2019t impossible!<\/a>&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>a series of three manuals&nbsp;for professionals (available in 5 languages: English, Greek, Bulgarian, Romanian and Hungarian)\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u200b<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mothers-in-prison.eu\/sites\/default\/files\/1\/EN_Manual%20for%20Professionals.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Raising a Child through Prison Bars: A Manual for Professionals<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mothers-in-prison.eu\/sites\/default\/files\/1\/ENG_Guide_Support%20Group%20with%20Imprisoned%20Mothers.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Step-by-Step Guide for Facilitating a Mothers\u2019 Sup port Group in Prison<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mothers-in-prison.eu\/sites\/default\/files\/1\/ENG_Guide_Support%20Group%20with%20Children.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Step-by-Step Guide for Facilitating a Children\u2019s Support Group<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u200bA total of&nbsp;<strong>269 imprisoned mothers&nbsp;<\/strong>\u03ba\u03b1\u03b9&nbsp;<strong>132 children of imprisoned parents&nbsp;<\/strong>participated&nbsp;in the Support Groups, and&nbsp;<strong>81 children of imprisoned mothers&nbsp;<\/strong>who participated in the family ties building activities&nbsp;conducted in 5 womens&#8217; prisons.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">EAVN developed the information leaflet for children of imprisoned parents and&nbsp;the following activities&nbsp;in collaboration with&nbsp;Georgina Kakoudaki (Theater Educator-Actress):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Development of the Step-by-Step Guide for Facilitating Support Groups for Children of Imprisoned Parents&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Implementation of four Support Groups with children of imprisoned parents: the aim of support&nbsp;groups was to empower Children of Imprisoned Parents (CHIP) to explore&nbsp;difficulties that they may encounter in their daily life, to \u201cdiscuss\u201d sensitive issues like imprisonment through&nbsp;theater games and, possibly, to discover methods on&nbsp;how to deal with any conflicts (both internal and external) that they may encounter in their everyday&nbsp;lives.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u200b<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"355\" height=\"145\"
