{"id":1489,"date":"2020-04-13T11:48:20","date_gmt":"2020-04-13T11:48:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/antiviolence-net.eu\/eavn\/?p=1489"},"modified":"2023-04-13T11:49:35","modified_gmt":"2023-04-13T11:49:35","slug":"adolescents-awareness-raising-workshops-youth4youth","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/antiviolence-net.eu\/eavn\/en\/adolescents-awareness-raising-workshops-youth4youth\/","title":{"rendered":"Adolescents&#8217; Awareness Raising\u00a0Workshops &#8220;Youth4Youth&#8221; \u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.antiviolence-net.eu\/Y4Y_logo.gif\" alt=\"\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During the school year\u00a02011-2012, EAVN implemented\u00a0<strong>4 Experiential Workshops\u00a0<\/strong>\u201cYouth4Youth\u201d\u00a0(total duration: 34 teaching hours) with 87 students of secondary education (35 boys and 52 girls) in 3 Lyceums in Attica, which were implemented in the framework of the project\u00a0\u201cYouth4Youth: Empowering Young People in Preventing Gender-based Violence through Peer Education\u201d (with financial support of the DAPHNE III Programme of the European Union).\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sixty-one students (23 boys and 38 girls) -out of the 87 students&nbsp;who were sensitized on Gender-based Violence and trained on the peer education methodology- acted as &#8220;peer educators&#8221;&nbsp;and implemented 28&nbsp;\u201cYouth4Youth\u201d&nbsp;Workshops (total duration:&nbsp;33 teaching hours), which resulted to the sensitization of&nbsp;435 students in the 3 Lyceums.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The&nbsp;workshops&#8217; aim&nbsp;was to provide&nbsp;adolescents with a safe space to:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>explore their attitudes towards gender-based violence,&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>explore how gender stereotypes and gender inequality are related to gender-based violence,&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>challenge attitudes of tolerance towards&nbsp;gender-based violence,&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>empower them to resist gender-based violence and develop attitudes of self-respect and self-value,&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>further develop and promote the &#8220;peer education&#8221; methodology to preventing gender-based violence among youth as well as promote their active involvement in developing a safe and protective environment for themselves and their peers<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>promote the development of critical thinking among young people towards important actors of youth gender socialization, particularly electronic and other media.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.antiviolence-net.eu\/Youth4Youth_workshops.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The experiential&nbsp;<strong>\u201cYouth4Youth\u201d&nbsp;<\/strong><strong>Workshops&nbsp;<\/strong>were organized, implemented and evaluated according to the methodology and activities&nbsp;described in detail in the \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.medinstgenderstudies.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/Y4Y-Manual_digital_v12.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Manual<\/a>&nbsp;for&nbsp;Empowering&nbsp;young people&nbsp;in preventing&nbsp;gender-based&nbsp;violence through&nbsp;peer education\u201d, which is the training material that was developed in the context of &#8220;Youth4Youth\u201d&nbsp;project.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the end of the&nbsp;<strong>\u201cYouth4Youth\u201d&nbsp;<\/strong><strong>Awareness Raising Workshops<\/strong>,&nbsp;the products of adolescents that resulted from each workshop were exhibited at schools. In one Lyceum, the products&#8217; exhibition is permanent while in the other two schools the exhibitions&#8217; duration lasted one week approximately. The organization of these exhibitions aimed at the celebration of adolescents&#8217; participation in the workshops and further sensitization of the entire school community&nbsp;(peers, teachers, parents)&nbsp;because the products depicted the teens&#8217; attitudes towards combating of GBV (materials that resulted from the experiential activities and&nbsp;posters with teen&#8217;s slogans against gender-based violence. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the evaluation results of&nbsp;<strong>\u201cYouth4Youth\u201d&nbsp;<\/strong><strong>Workshops,&nbsp;<\/strong>students were highly satisfied with their participation in the workshops, while the vast majority of students replied that they would&nbsp;recommend to a friend of theirs&nbsp;to participate in a workshop like this&nbsp;(95.9%) and they would like to participate again in a similar workshop in the future&nbsp;(90.3%). In addition, 94.5% of students believes that these kinds of workshops should be carried out in the school setting and&nbsp;87.5% of students expressed their willingness to act again as peer educator on GBV awareness raising activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Overall, the workshops seemed to highly contribute to the obtainment of new knowledge by participants, as the total mean ratings in all assessed aspects ranged from 67.5% to 77.9%. The influence of workshops <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.antiviolence-net.eu\/Youth4Youth_workshops2.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">were\u00a0higher, as assessed by\u00a0students themselves, in the aspects of recognizing their own relationships (77.9%) and\u00a0behaviors (75.1%) as healthy or unhealthy, as well as in the aspect of gaining the\u00a0basic knowledge related to what they should do if themselves or somebody else is\u00a0being abused (70.6%). Comparatively lower but also to a great extent seemed to be\u00a0workshops\u2019 influence in the aspects of recognizing incidences of gender based\u00a0violence (69%) and enhancing students\u2019 knowledge in the topics of gender\u00a0stereotypes and gender based violence (67.5%). What is of importance to be\u00a0highlighted here is that after the workshops, participants felt more ready and more\u00a0capable to take action against incidences of gender based violence by 68.1%;\u00a0suggesting that the workshops had considerable effect not only in a theoretical level, by obtaining new knowledge, but also in a practical level.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">More information and the detailed results of the implementation and evaluation of&nbsp;\u201cYouth4Youth\u201d&nbsp;Workshops in Greece&nbsp;are available on the Project&#8217;s Coordinator website in&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/goo.gl\/Gb2mhm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">English<\/a>. href=\"http:\/\/goo.gl\/nYdb8N\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Italy<\/a>,&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/goo.gl\/2hwtHN\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Spain<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/goo.gl\/UhrROp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Lithuania<\/a>. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image
