Writing beyond the Silence – Promoting autobiographical writing competences to help survivors of gender violence (Project No.: JUST/2012/DAP/AG/3448)
EAVN participated as a partner in the Project “Writing beyond the Silence – Promoting autobiographical writing competences to help survivors of gender violence” (with financial support from the DAPHNE III Programme of the European Union).
The project’s coordinator was Libera Università dell Autobiografia (Italy), and project’s partners were: a) Provincia di Roma – Istituzione Solidea” (Italy), b) Coolabora CRL (Portugal) and c) European Anti-Violence Network (Greece). In addition, associate partners are University of Beira (Portugal) and General Secretariat for Gender Equality (G.S.G.E.).In the framework of the project, it was implemented a training seminar of professionals working with abused women in 3 countries (Greece, Italy and Portugal).
With Autobiographical Methodology, individuals learn -also with a minimum level of literacy- how to construct their written life-story. Promoting autobiographical writing among survivors of violence provides them means of sense-making, coping with emotional distress, to give experiences a different perspective. Training the professionals involved in support/shelter services aims to provide them skills to integrate narrative-autobiographical approach in their caring relationship. Actualization in field will give women ways to reflect and to reinterpret lived situations, facilitating a process of personal transformation and empowerment and preventing re-victimization (Project’s website: http://writingbeyond.eu/).
